How to clean stainless steel: care without scratches or streaks
Stainless steel is easy to care for, but the wrong product or a hard sponge can leave permanent marks on the surface. A few rules are enough for daily care.
Daily care
Wipe with a damp, soft cloth or microfiber, then dry with a dry cloth. Drying prevents water spots and limescale marks. On brushed surfaces, the wiping direction should follow the direction of the lines on the surface.
Grease and fingerprints
A small amount of dish detergent mixed into lukewarm water dissolves grease. Wipe, rinse and dry. For fingerprints, glass cleaner or stainless steel cleaner can also be used.
What to avoid?
- Steel wool and hard, abrasive sponges (they scratch the surface)
- Bleach and chlorine-containing cleaners (they can damage the surface)
- Abrasive powder cleaners
- Metal containers and iron-containing parts left wet for a long time (they can leave rust stains on the surface)
If a stain remains
For stubborn water spots, wipe with diluted white vinegar and rinse with plenty of water. Always test in a hidden spot first and dry the surface after treatment.
