How to choose a coffee table size: height, length and distance

A table of the right size is comfortable to use and makes the seating area look balanced. Looking at three measurements is usually enough.

Height

Ideally the table height is close to the seat height of the sofa, or a few centimeters below it. A table that is too high makes getting up and sitting down harder. A low table gives a spacious, modern look.

Length

A common proportion is for the table to be about two thirds of the sofa's length. This size provides a comfortable surface and leaves room beside the sofa.

Distance from the sofa

Leaving 40–45 cm between the sofa and the table allows both reaching out and easy passage.

Shape and material

In narrow spaces, a cornerless, light-looking table leaves more room to move. With its slim lines, stainless steel looks spacious even in small rooms. If standard sizes don't fit your space, made-to-measure production is also possible.
