Choosing metal table legs and custom sizes: height, thickness and connection
Metal table legs are among the products most searched for by people who want to choose their own tabletop. The right leg is determined by the tabletop's weight, size and purpose.
Height
For coffee tables, the height is usually chosen close to, or a little below, the seat height of the sofa. Side tables can be a little taller. Also take the tabletop thickness into account, because the total height is the leg plus the tabletop.
Load capacity
Glass and solid wood tops are heavy. The leg thickness and profile size should be chosen according to the weight of the top. Thin legs look elegant with light tops but can fall short with heavy ones.
Number of legs and form
Options include four independent legs, a U- or H-shaped frame, or a single central base. The form needs to be stable for the size of the tabletop.
Connection and floor
The leg is attached to the tabletop with a plate and screws, or with a welded frame. A protective tip can be used under the foot so it doesn't scratch the floor, and an adjustable tip on uneven floors.
If standard sizes aren't enough
If standard legs don't fit your tabletop, we can make custom-size metal legs or a frame. Share your tabletop's dimensions, its material and the height you want.
