What to look for when choosing a bathroom shelf: material, size and mounting
The bathroom is one of the toughest environments for metal: constant humidity, water splashes and cleaning chemicals. Look at three points when choosing a shelf.
Material
Stainless steel is a common choice in bathrooms because it keeps its shape and surface in damp conditions. Painted surfaces can scratch and blister over time, so they need to be chosen carefully for the bathroom.
Size
Think about what the shelf will hold. A compact shelf is enough for cosmetics and small accessories; shampoo and large bottles need a deeper surface. Compare the shelf size with the free space on the wall by measuring it.
Mounting
The wall type determines the mounting method. Tile and ceramic need the right bit and anchor, while concrete or brick need a different anchor. Drilling slowly and carefully is important so the ceramic does not crack. For shelves that will carry heavy loads, make sure the mounting point is solid.
Care
Wiping with a damp cloth and drying is enough. Avoid hard sponges and chlorine-based cleaners.
